Is MEXC available in the US?
No. MEXC does not accept users who live in the United States. Its User Agreement specifies, in the section titled "Prohibited Jurisdiction": "Currently, MEXC does not provide Services, nor do we accept registration of Users or trade applications, in the following countries", and the United States is included on that list without exceptions for any US state. MEXC's help article on restricted countries confirms the same. Source: MEXC User Agreement, www.mexc.com/terms.

Which countries MEXC does not serve
The same section of the User Agreement details the countries and regions where MEXC does not provide services or accept registrations:
- North Korea, Cuba, Sudan, and Iran
- Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan
- the United States and Canada
- the United Kingdom
- the Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine, currently including Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Sevastopol
- any country or territory under country-wide economic or trade sanctions of the European Union or OFAC, or on the FATF "Blacklist"
MEXC refers to this list as non-exclusive and indicates it may change at any time. Separately, MEXC is phasing out its services for users in the Netherlands, citing regulatory developments in the European Economic Area.
What US residents can use instead
We checked the terms or help pages of each provider below, and each one says it serves customers in the US. For low fees and a broad selection of products, we would start with Kraken: of the four, it has our highest rating for fees and costs. For those new to buying crypto, we think Coinbase is the simpler start, with our top rating for beginner friendliness.
- Kraken: serves US residents in every state except New York and Maine, with some products, like staking, varying by state. Source: Kraken help center. More in our Kraken review.
- Coinbase: available to residents of every US state, but new staking isn't available in California, Maryland, New Jersey, and Wisconsin. Source: Coinbase US User Agreement and help center. More in our Coinbase review.
- eToro, a broker: crypto trading for US customers is via eToro USA LLC, or eToro NY LLC for New York residents, and is unavailable in Hawaii, Nevada, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Source: eToro US disclosures page. More in our eToro review.

Questions US readers ask about MEXC
Can you use MEXC from the US with a VPN?
MEXC's User Agreement requires every user to confirm they are not "resident, located in or otherwise attempting to access" MEXC services from a banned country, and the United States is one of these. If MEXC finds that a user misrepresented their location or residence, the agreement permits closing the account immediately and liquidating any open positions. In our view, that wording also covers anyone who connects through a VPN from a prohibited country.
Can you download the MEXC app in the US?
The MEXC iOS app appears in the US App Store, but the User Agreement's restrictions apply to the app as well. MEXC's help center also notes that users must complete KYC verification to access its products and services.
Is MEXC legal in the US?
For a US resident, MEXC's terms provide a practical answer. Searching for MEXC and enforcement might reveal an order from the Alabama Securities Commission, CD-2024-0027, which concerns a different site with a similar name, not mexc.com.
Our take
In our view, MEXC is a strong choice for active traders in the countries it serves. For US residents, the better route is a provider whose own terms cover the state you live in, such as Kraken or Coinbase.
