Transferable to your own wallet
Self-custody of cryptocurrencies plays an important role for many users who want to manage their cryptocurrencies and thus their "private keys" themselves and not leave them in the hands of the exchange. Most exchanges offer the option of sending the purchased cryptocurrencies to their own wallet.
Deposit protection is a safeguard for the assets of users of a stock exchange or broker, which is intended to protect investors in the event of insolvency or a high loss due to a hacker attack. Service providers based in Germany are legally obliged to provide deposit protection of €100,000. In some cases, international exchanges have a special insurance policy that covers a certain portion of the assets instead of a deposit guarantee.
The overall rating is the average of our individual ratings. Our ratings do not constitute investment advice, but merely our personal opinion. You are welcome to use them as rough indicators and additional perspective. In the dynamic and fast-growing crypto sector, parameters can often change from one day to the next, so we cannot guarantee that the rating data is up to date. Therefore, please never use our ratings as an isolated basis for decision-making and not as a substitute for your own research.
This rating describes our personal assessment of the user-friendliness of the product. How easy is the onboarding process? How modern is the user interface and is it easy to use? Are all the important functions quick and easy to find? We ask ourselves all these questions in order to give a personal rating from 1 to 10 points.
This rating describes our assessment of the fee structure of a stock exchange or broker. It is not only the amount of fees that can differ, but also the type of fees. The most common type of fees for crypto exchanges are the "maker/taker" fees or spreads. In some cases, there are also hidden fees that are not recognizable to users at first glance.
For products or services in the crypto space, trust and security should be the biggest factors in the selection process. Since we could not seriously evaluate the technical security of a platform or product, we analyze publicly available factors such as security features, location, regulation, certifications, audits, team/company, general reputation and, of course, track record.
Crypto doesn't have to be cryptic. Especially for beginners, the first contact with the crypto world can be overwhelming. With this rating, we give our assessment of how easy it is for beginners to find their way around: from the onboarding process to using the most important functions.
Customer support is an important factor for many users. A long wait or no response at all in the event of problems can be frustrating, especially when it comes to sensitive topics such as finances. With this rating, we give our assessment of the quality of customer support. In order to provide as balanced an assessment as possible, we also include user opinions from other platforms in our evaluation.
Some exchanges and brokers are regulated by financial supervisory authorities in certain countries/states. This often entails strict financial regulatory requirements and compliance requirements to which the company must adhere. Regulatory clarity can contribute to greater transparency and thus also greater trustworthiness.

Our Review

Investment App vs Crypto Exchange
In our view, Trade Republic is the preferable choice for those who want to build a portfolio of stocks and ETFs, and also include crypto in the same app. It allows for purchases through free savings plans or for a €1 fee per trade. We think Binance is more suitable if crypto is your primary trading focus. Binance offers 416 crypto assets with an active spot market compared to 50 at Trade Republic. Its entry-tier spot fee is 0.10% for both makers and takers. In the US, Trade Republic is not available, and Binance.com does not accept US residents. US residents can only register with Binance.US, which operates as a separate exchange with its own account and terms.
A broker app with crypto or a crypto exchange
Trade Republic acts as a broker where crypto is just one option alongside its 11,500 stocks and ETFs, more than 500 bonds, savings plans, a Visa debit card, and interest on cash. On the other hand, Binance operates as a crypto exchange featuring an order book and 1,372 spot pairs, along with services such as margin, futures, options, copy trading, trading bots, and staking, plus it now includes US stocks and ETFs.
In our view, Trade Republic suits money you invest for years across asset classes, and Binance suits money you actively trade in crypto. We rate Trade Republic higher for beginners, ease of operation and support, and Binance higher for its range of functions.
What a trade costs
Trade Republic has no maker or taker fees. Each crypto order costs a €1 settlement fee plus a spread built into the price, and Trade Republic does not publish the size of that spread on its website. The fixed €1 weighs more on small orders, while crypto savings plans run without an execution fee, so in our view they suit small regular amounts.
On Binance's spot market, the entry tier pays 0.10% as maker or taker, or 0.075% when you pay the fee in BNB. We rate Binance clearly higher on fees, because its spot rate is published as a percentage and Trade Republic's spread is not.
Coins, staking and derivatives
Binance supports 416 crypto assets with an active spot market, in contrast to Trade Republic's 50. Both platforms offer staking options. Trade Republic does not deal with crypto derivatives. Instead, it provides 420,000 derivatives like warrants and certificates on securities. Binance offers USD-margined futures with entry-tier fees of 0.02% for makers and 0.05% for takers. Futures rely on leverage, where even a small adverse price shift can wipe out your margin.
We rate Binance higher in terms of variety, offering more coins and crypto derivatives.
Moving coins between Binance and Trade Republic
Since November 2025, Trade Republic's Crypto Wallet lets you send its 50 listed cryptos to outside wallets and receive them from there. So a transfer from Binance to Trade Republic works for any coin that both platforms support on a shared network. Trade Republic charges no fee of its own, only the network fee, which the app shows before you send. Binance charges a flat withdrawal fee per coin and network and adjusts it to network conditions without notice.
In our view this round is a tie: Trade Republic adds no transfer fee of its own, while Binance lets you move far more coins.
Regulation and track record
BaFin and the Deutsche Bundesbank oversee Trade Republic Bank GmbH as a full German bank, and since April 2025, BaFin has authorized it under MiCA. Cash is held in trust accounts at partner banks, under deposit protection up to €100,000 per customer, or in separately held money market funds. Crypto and securities are owned by the customer and are not covered. Cryptos are stored in pooled wallets, mostly in cold storage with BitGo Europe GmbH, which has MiCA authorization, with no private keys given to users.
Binance's global platform is run by Nest Exchange Limited in the Abu Dhabi Global Market under the FSRA and holds no MiCA authorization: ESMA's interim register lists no Binance entity. In November 2023, Binance Holdings Limited pleaded guilty in the US to failing to maintain an effective anti-money laundering program, operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and sanctions violations, and the four US actions together require Binance to pay over $4.3 billion. The SEC's separate civil case was dismissed with prejudice in May 2025. Binance is not obliged to insure the digital assets it holds; its monthly proof of reserves names no outside auditor and, in the snapshot we read, put bitcoin at 100.16% of net account balances, which now include the platform's own assets.
We rate Binance higher regarding security and trust. Our rating method lists licenses and registrations as factual details, not scores, so readers should compare the records above if regulation is a priority.
Where you can use them
Trade Republic is not available in the US, because its customer agreement does not let US persons open an account. Binance.com does not accept anyone located in, resident in or a citizen of the United States; US residents can only use Binance.US, a separate exchange run by BAM Trading Services, Inc. with its own account, terms and list of states.
In Europe, Trade Republic is available in 18 countries, such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, and the Netherlands. Binance lacks licenses or registrations in the EU or the EEA, and its terms exclude residents of the Netherlands, making Trade Republic the only option there.
Our verdict by reader
- Long-term investor after stocks, ETFs and crypto in a single app: in our view Trade Republic, because your coins sit next to 11,500 stocks and ETFs and crypto savings plans cost nothing to execute.
- Active crypto trader: we would pick Binance for its order book and spot fees of 0.10% at the entry tier.
- Altcoin buyer: we think Binance fits better, with 416 crypto assets against 50.
- Someone moving coins between the two: in our view a tie, since transfers work both ways for coins both platforms support on the same network.
- US resident: neither, since Trade Republic does not accept US persons and Binance.com directs US residents to Binance.US. Consider starting with our list of exchanges for US customers.
If neither fits, see our list of exchanges for beginners, our list of exchanges with low fees, or our Trade Republic vs Scalable Capital and Coinbase vs Binance comparisons. The full write-ups are our Trade Republic review and our Binance review.
Questions about Trade Republic and Binance
Can you transfer crypto from Binance to Trade Republic?
Yes, for coins that Binance can send on a network Trade Republic accepts, since Trade Republic's Crypto Wallet accepts coins from external wallets. Binance charges its withdrawal fee for the coin and network you choose, and Trade Republic charges nothing on top.
