Transferable to your own wallet
Self-custody of cryptocurrencies plays an important role for many users who want to manage their cryptocurrencies and thus their "private keys" themselves and not leave them in the hands of the exchange. Most exchanges offer the option of sending the purchased cryptocurrencies to their own wallet.
Deposit protection is a safeguard for the assets of users of a stock exchange or broker, which is intended to protect investors in the event of insolvency or a high loss due to a hacker attack. Service providers based in Germany are legally obliged to provide deposit protection of €100,000. In some cases, international exchanges have a special insurance policy that covers a certain portion of the assets instead of a deposit guarantee.
The overall rating is the average of our individual ratings. Our ratings do not constitute investment advice, but merely our personal opinion. You are welcome to use them as rough indicators and additional perspective. In the dynamic and fast-growing crypto sector, parameters can often change from one day to the next, so we cannot guarantee that the rating data is up to date. Therefore, please never use our ratings as an isolated basis for decision-making and not as a substitute for your own research.
This rating describes our personal assessment of the user-friendliness of the product. How easy is the onboarding process? How modern is the user interface and is it easy to use? Are all the important functions quick and easy to find? We ask ourselves all these questions in order to give a personal rating from 1 to 10 points.
This rating describes our assessment of the fee structure of a stock exchange or broker. It is not only the amount of fees that can differ, but also the type of fees. The most common type of fees for crypto exchanges are the "maker/taker" fees or spreads. In some cases, there are also hidden fees that are not recognizable to users at first glance.
For products or services in the crypto space, trust and security should be the biggest factors in the selection process. Since we could not seriously evaluate the technical security of a platform or product, we analyze publicly available factors such as security features, location, regulation, certifications, audits, team/company, general reputation and, of course, track record.
Crypto doesn't have to be cryptic. Especially for beginners, the first contact with the crypto world can be overwhelming. With this rating, we give our assessment of how easy it is for beginners to find their way around: from the onboarding process to using the most important functions.
Customer support is an important factor for many users. A long wait or no response at all in the event of problems can be frustrating, especially when it comes to sensitive topics such as finances. With this rating, we give our assessment of the quality of customer support. In order to provide as balanced an assessment as possible, we also include user opinions from other platforms in our evaluation.
Some exchanges and brokers are regulated by financial supervisory authorities in certain countries/states. This often entails strict financial regulatory requirements and compliance requirements to which the company must adhere. Regulatory clarity can contribute to greater transparency and thus also greater trustworthiness.

Our Review

Wide Coin Selection vs Derivatives Leader
For most active traders, WEEX is in our view the stronger pick. We rate it higher overall and on each of our criteria. It lists 1,173 crypto assets compared to more than 350 on Bybit, and its futures leverage reaches up to 400x. We would pick Bybit if you want options and trading bots within a single account, a MiCA-authorized platform in the EU, or a lower futures taker fee. Neither exchange accommodates US residents, as both include the United States among the locations they do not serve.
What trading costs on each side
At the entry tier, both platforms charge the same rate on spot trading: 0.10% for makers and takers on the global Bybit platform and nearly every pair at WEEX. The rate decreases with higher VIP levels. At the highest tier, Supreme VIP on Bybit pays 0.030% for makers and 0.045% for takers on spot, while VIP 8 on WEEX incurs 0.0048% for makers and 0.018% for takers.
Both platforms charge makers 0.02% for perpetual futures. However, Bybit charges takers 0.055%, which is less than 0.08% at WEEX. Therefore, market orders for futures are cheaper on Bybit.
WEEX charges a fixed 0.00016 BTC for a Bitcoin withdrawal on the Bitcoin network. Bybit also sets a fixed fee per coin and network but changes it often, and in our checks it ranged from 0.000035 to 0.000068 BTC, well below the WEEX fee. Neither charges a fee for crypto deposits.
We rate WEEX slightly higher regarding fees and costs, despite Bybit being cheaper for futures takers and Bitcoin withdrawals.
Coins, futures and trading tools
WEEX offers 1,173 crypto assets across 1,637 spot pairs, roughly three times more than at Bybit, where more than 350 crypto assets are available on 530 spot pairs. Bybit also includes 11 tokenized US stocks, known as xStocks.
WEEX provides 1,022 perpetual contracts with leverage up to 400x on BTCUSDT and ETHUSDT. Bybit lists 890 linear contracts, 850 of which are perpetual, plus 26 inverse contracts. Its public API limits leverage on the BTCUSDT perpetual to 150x, although Bybit advertises up to 200x. We consider such high leverage a tool for experienced traders, as small price movements can eliminate a position.
Bybit offers options, with 738 BTC options instruments, grid and DCA trading bots, copy trading, Earn products, and P2P trading. WEEX also features copy trading, with a lead trader's share of 10% of your net profit from copied trades, TradFi perpetual contracts on precious metals, stocks, and crude oil, a demo mode with 50,000 USDT in demo funds, Auto Earn, and P2P trading.
We rate WEEX higher for the range of functions and overall operation.
Reserves, security and regulation
WEEX keeps a 1,000 BTC protection fund in a public Bitcoin address, and its terms treat the fund as supplemental coverage at its sole discretion, not insurance. On its proof-of-reserves page, reserves covered 146.39% of user BTC and 100.02% of user USDT in the latest snapshot, but the page names no auditor.
Bybit has released 40 proof-of-reserves reports since December 2022, with the latest showing every reserve ratio at or above 100%, and BTC at 104% of user holdings. In February 2025, approximately $1.5 billion in virtual assets were stolen from Bybit, a theft that the FBI attributes to North Korea. The subsequent Bybit reserve snapshot showed ETH reserves at 102% of user ETH.
The global Bybit platform is run by Bybit Technology Limited, which the Seychelles FSA lists with the status "Assessment" rather than among licensed providers; the FSA says firms at this stage have submitted a complete application and may keep operating until it decides. In the EU, Bybit EU GmbH in Vienna holds a MiCA authorization from Austria's FMA. WEEX names no license, its terms name no legal entity, and regulators in Arkansas and Georgia have ordered WEEX International Exchange LTD, the operator named in US regulator records, to cease and desist over money transmission without a license.
We rate WEEX higher in terms of security and trust.
Verification and support
Bybit requires Standard identity verification for all products and services, and new accounts cannot deposit funds without it. WEEX allows account creation with just an email or phone number and requests identity verification for specific products and scenarios, such as P2P trading, copy trading, and Auto Earn.
According to the KYC help article, the Bybit team responds to support cases within one working day. We rate WEEX higher for beginners and slightly better for support services.
Where you can use WEEX and Bybit
Neither platform is available in the US. WEEX's terms of use exclude the United States, its territories, and Canada. Bybit's terms also exclude the United States, and the restriction applies to US nationals living abroad. Bybit EU does not accept US nationals either.
In Europe, Bybit runs Bybit EU, whose MiCA authorization is valid in 29 EEA states, all except Malta. Bybit EU lists 108 crypto assets, charges 0.25% for makers and takers on spot and offers no USDT or USDC perpetuals. WEEX is not listed in the European register of authorized crypto-asset service providers. In the UK, Bybit offers spot trading and P2P, without derivatives.
The global Bybit platform also excludes Canada, Australia, France, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Chinese mainland, among others, and WEEX lists South Korea, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
