Transferable to your own wallet
Self-custody of cryptocurrencies plays an important role for many users who want to manage their cryptocurrencies and thus their "private keys" themselves and not leave them in the hands of the exchange. Most exchanges offer the option of sending the purchased cryptocurrencies to their own wallet.
Deposit protection is a safeguard for the assets of users of a stock exchange or broker, which is intended to protect investors in the event of insolvency or a high loss due to a hacker attack. Service providers based in Germany are legally obliged to provide deposit protection of €100,000. In some cases, international exchanges have a special insurance policy that covers a certain portion of the assets instead of a deposit guarantee.
The overall rating is the average of our individual ratings. Our ratings do not constitute investment advice, but merely our personal opinion. You are welcome to use them as rough indicators and additional perspective. In the dynamic and fast-growing crypto sector, parameters can often change from one day to the next, so we cannot guarantee that the rating data is up to date. Therefore, please never use our ratings as an isolated basis for decision-making and not as a substitute for your own research.
This rating describes our personal assessment of the user-friendliness of the product. How easy is the onboarding process? How modern is the user interface and is it easy to use? Are all the important functions quick and easy to find? We ask ourselves all these questions in order to give a personal rating from 1 to 10 points.
This rating describes our assessment of the fee structure of a stock exchange or broker. It is not only the amount of fees that can differ, but also the type of fees. The most common type of fees for crypto exchanges are the "maker/taker" fees or spreads. In some cases, there are also hidden fees that are not recognizable to users at first glance.
For products or services in the crypto space, trust and security should be the biggest factors in the selection process. Since we could not seriously evaluate the technical security of a platform or product, we analyze publicly available factors such as security features, location, regulation, certifications, audits, team/company, general reputation and, of course, track record.
Crypto doesn't have to be cryptic. Especially for beginners, the first contact with the crypto world can be overwhelming. With this rating, we give our assessment of how easy it is for beginners to find their way around: from the onboarding process to using the most important functions.
Customer support is an important factor for many users. A long wait or no response at all in the event of problems can be frustrating, especially when it comes to sensitive topics such as finances. With this rating, we give our assessment of the quality of customer support. In order to provide as balanced an assessment as possible, we also include user opinions from other platforms in our evaluation.
Some exchanges and brokers are regulated by financial supervisory authorities in certain countries/states. This often entails strict financial regulatory requirements and compliance requirements to which the company must adhere. Regulatory clarity can contribute to greater transparency and thus also greater trustworthiness.

Our Review

Copy Trading Challenger vs Listing Leader
For active traders the two are, in our view, close. We rate WEEX a little higher overall, while MEXC charges less on its main spot pairs, on BTC futures, and on Bitcoin withdrawals, and lists 1,262 coins against 1,173 on WEEX. WEEX maintains one 0.10% spot fee on almost every pair at its entry tier, which simplifies cost prediction. Neither exchange serves US residents, with both listing the United States among the places they do not serve.
What trading costs on each side
MEXC imposes a 0% maker fee and a 0.05% taker fee on BTC/USDT and its other major spot pairs. However, some smaller pairs have a taker fee of 0.08% or 0.2%. In contrast, WEEX charges 0.10% to both makers and takers on nearly all spot pairs at its entry tier, VIP 0.
For futures, MEXC applies a 0% maker fee and a 0.02% taker fee on its BTCUSDT perpetual contract. WEEX starts at a 0.02% maker fee and a 0.08% taker fee, with rates decreasing across nine VIP levels, ranging from VIP 0 to VIP 8. Holding its WXT token can help qualify for higher levels.
The gap is widest in Bitcoin withdrawals. WEEX charges a fixed 0.00016 BTC on the Bitcoin network, with a 0.002 BTC minimum. MEXC charges 0.00002 BTC or 0.000001 BTC over Lightning. No fees are charged by either for depositing BTC or USDT.
We rate the two level on fees and costs, though on the numbers above MEXC is the cheaper venue for BTC trading and for moving bitcoin out.
Coins, futures and trading tools
MEXC offers 1,262 coins on 1,900 spot pairs, while WEEX provides 1,173 crypto assets on 1,637 spot pairs. Both exchanges present extensive options for altcoin enthusiasts.
WEEX lists 1,022 perpetual contracts, with up to 400x on BTCUSDT, ETHUSDT and the gold and silver contracts XAUTUSDT and XAGUSDT. MEXC lists 1,207 futures contracts, with up to 500x on BTC and up to 1000x on some gold and silver contracts. In our view, leverage at these levels is a tool for experienced traders: a small price move can wipe out a position.
Both exchanges extend beyond cryptocurrency. WEEX TradFi offers perpetual contracts on precious metals, stocks, and crude oil using USDT as margin, and MEXC features Stock Futures and RealStocks, which are tokenized stocks.
Copy trading costs the same on both: the lead trader's share is 10% of your net profit from copied trades at WEEX and 10% by default at MEXC. Both have demo trading, and WEEX gives newly registered users 50,000 USDT in demo funds for BTC and ETH futures. MEXC also runs spot grid, futures grid and DCA bots and Event Futures.
We rate WEEX higher for its range of functions and for operation.
Reserves, protection funds and regulation
WEEX keeps a 1,000 BTC protection fund in a public Bitcoin address that anyone can look up on a block explorer; its terms treat the fund as supplemental coverage at its sole discretion, not insurance. On its proof-of-reserves page, reserves covered 146.39% of user BTC, 124.46% of user ETH and 100.02% of user USDT in the latest snapshot, but the page names no auditor.
MEXC publishes a monthly proof of reserves built on a Merkle tree, with an audit report from Hacken, and in its latest snapshot its reserves covered 297% of user BTC and 119% of user USDT. Its Guardian Fund is MEXC's own fund for platform issues rather than deposit insurance.
Neither exchange cites a license for its platform. WEEX's terms name no legal entity and are governed by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines law. US regulator records identify the operator as WEEX International Exchange LTD, registered with FinCEN as a money services business, which is a registration, not a license. Regulators in Arkansas and Georgia have issued cease and desist orders against it over money transmission without a license. For MEXC, the Seychelles Financial Services Authority names MX Global Ltd as the operator and announced enforcement action against it in May 2026 for operating without a license there.
We rate WEEX higher for security and trust.
Verification and support
WEEX allows account creation with an email address or phone number and requires identity verification for certain products and account situations, such as P2P trading, copy trading, and Auto Earn. Daily withdrawal limits depend on your VIP level and whether you've completed basic or advanced verification.
MEXC mandates KYC for access to its services. Crypto withdrawal limits increase to 80 BTC per day following Primary verification and up to 200 BTC after Advanced verification.
We rate both platforms equally for beginner accessibility and support services.
Where you can use WEEX and MEXC
Neither is an option in the US. The terms of use of WEEX list the United States, its territories and Canada among the places where it does not offer services, and MEXC's user agreement lists the United States, with no exception for any state, and Canada as well. Both apps appear in Apple's US App Store, but that does not change the terms.
WEEX further lists South Korea, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates, among others. MEXC mentions the United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, and mainland China, among others.
For residents of the US, our list of exchanges for US customers and our pages Is WEEX available in the US? and Is MEXC available in the US? provide options for platforms that accept you.
Our verdict by reader
- Futures trader who wants the lowest entry fees: in our view MEXC, at 0% maker and 0.02% taker on its BTCUSDT perpetual; our list of exchanges for derivatives has more.
- Trader who wants one spot fee on every pair: in our view WEEX, which charges 0.10% to makers and takers on almost every pair at its entry tier.
- Copy trader: in our view either, since both give the lead trader a 10% share; WEEX adds a demo mode with 50,000 USDT in demo funds.
- Bitcoin withdrawals: in our view MEXC, at 0.00002 BTC against 0.00016 BTC at WEEX, or 0.000001 BTC over Lightning.
- Overall pick: WEEX, which we rate a little higher overall and for operation.
- US resident: neither exchange accepts you, so begin with our US list above.
